MUA For A Day with Lena Talks Beauty

If it wasn’t for blogging, I don’t know where I’d be – especially without one of my best friends Lena (of Lena Talks Beauty). We’ve now known each other for years, and decided it was high time to do a collab post! We organised to meet up one weekend day afternoon and do each others makeup – just for fun!

I’ll be the first to admit that I am definitely no professional make up artist, but it was so much fun getting up in Lena’s face and applying make up. I don’t think I’ve ever really done anyones makeup. With me and my sister being 5 1/2 years apart, we missed that boat, in saying that, after she heard I was going to Lena’s to do her makeup she asked if I would do hers too! Exciting

It’s so so SO different applying makeup onto someone else. So different. I don’t know if I’m being too rough, or not rough enough. I also don’t want to breathe heavily on her face incase I gross her out – you know? Awkward.

I digress – Let’s talk about what I did to Lena’s face!
I actually wanted to recreate the look I wore on Christmas day on Lena, so after rummaging through her make up, I settled on a few colours and went for it.

What did I use?

How did I do it?

Her Face
I started with the primer, mainly on her forehead and cheeks, but basically all over because thats what I do with primer. Then went over most of her face and high neck with the foundation and the Real Techniques Multi Task brush, blending a lot (with the RT Buffing brush – love this). I popped some concealer under her eyes and blended that in.

Her Eyes
I tackled her eyes first, as I knew I would spend ages making them perfect – and I definitely did, oops. I think I spent about 50% of the whole time just doing eyeshadow trying to make it perfect.  I started off with the translucent shimmery amazingness colour (aka I don’t know it’s name) from the Victorias Secret palette I’ve got (Cheapo palette I grabbed in Melbourne and has come in handy even though the pigment isn’t that amazing). I popped this colour over the middle and inner eyelid, with the bdellium 776 brush, of course it fell all down her cheeks, but you know, I just kept adding it until there was a good amount on her lids.  I then grabbed some of the Mac Espresso eyeshadow and defined her crease at the end of the eye. I grabbed some more of the translucent shimmery amazingness colour and blended and blended to create the look below.  The lighting wasn’t amazing, but you can sort of see the shimmery appearing in the middle. After cleaning up the powder on her cheeks, and applying a fine think line of black eyeliner on her top lid; I finished with some mascara, trying hard not to poke her eyeball.

Her Eyebrows
I had SO much fun doing Lena’s eyebrows – I found it so easy to do her eyebrows, mainly because they’re an amazing shape. I used the BBD spooly to brush them out, and then grabbed a bunch of the eyesbrow powder and went around the top and bottom edges of her brow. I tried to accentuate the top arch a bit, so did draw a wee bit on, on the top outer line. I then filled them in and gave the middle/beginnings a light spool so she didn’t have square eyebrows! I’m pretty proud of her brows, to be honest.

Her Lips
On her lips I applied the Jeffree Star limited edition liquid lipstick in Hoe Hoe Hoe – probably my favourite colour from Jeffree to date. I used a lipstick brush to get the outer line perfect before filling in the rest. This colour just looks amazing on Lena.

Finishing Touches
I applied some highlighter on to Lena’s cheeks, brow bone and nose for a natural glow.

What do you think of the finished look? I’m pretty impressed with how it turned out – especially because I didn’t *really* know what I was doing.
