For The Bloggers - Wordpress Plugins

For The Bloggers // Top 4 WordPress Plugins For Bloggers

As some of you know I’m a Web Designer and Developer by day. Blogging is a big hobby of mine and I really enjoy doing it, and do wish I could do it more. It gives me a little bit of a creative outlet when I need it.

I had a long honest chat with a friend of mine, Sam, about how I’d been struggling to find my ‘niche’ with blogging and how I really didn’t want my niche to become web development tips or alike, as I think if I did a lot of those kind of blog posts, I would eventually become a blogger I didn’t want to be.  Having this chat with Sam though made me realise that I hadn’t really done any blog posts about design or development. I’m not really sure why, probably just a bit of reluctance for fear of ‘that type of blogging’.

The talk helped me a lot and I’ve decided to blog a little bit about that side blogging / web design and development. You’re welcome. haha.

Before I get cocky, I do want to say that these are only recommendations and should come with a warning of:
A) If you don’t know what you’re doing and try do install / edit / change things where you probably shouldn’t be – then don’t blame me! Remember to always back up your website if you’re planning on making any changes.
B) These are simply my favourite things or tips. Don’t feel like you have to or should use them simply because I said so.

  1. LOVE THIS LAURA! You are my go-to web guru and I think you have a fantastic gift at being able to make even the most noob-iest of people (me) understand things a lot better. I hope you do a lot more of these kinda posts, you’re seriously amazing!
I love Disqus, I think it was one of the best decisions I made when I installed that on the blog. It just makes commenting so much more user friendly, I love it.

I really want to use Recipe Card now, it sounds so cool! And I keep trying to install blimmin’ Tweetily but it will not work for me. It refuses to let me sign in with my twitter account! UGH.

    1. Thank you Christel – that is amazing feedback to get x
I definitely don’t want to become a helper blogger, as I enjoy the other blog posts too much, but I think there is value in sharing the knowledge I take for granted! It’s just figuring out what is helpful to bloggers!

I’ll be sharing more helpful plugins, as obviously there aren’t just four out there that are good in my books ๐Ÿ˜›
What other web-guru (your words not mine!) type posts would you like to see?

      1. Yeah I can understand that for sure, but I do think all of us (especially ones like me who don’t really know much about the technical side of blogging) would love to see more posts!
Yes please, more plugin suggestions would actually be great. I find all the plugins available to be just a bit overwhelming, so to have a list of ones to check out would be perfect.

Some in-depth “how to’s” would be awesome too, maybe even a post where you list things that people often get wrong (in terms of design etc) and how to fix them. Does that make sense?

        1. Hey Christel! Yes it does make sense – thanks! I think I might also do a post about the plugins that I have installed – so it’s like a ‘whats in my bag’ but for my website ๐Ÿ˜‰ hehe

    1. Thanks so much Oli – It means a lot that people are taking my recommendations are giving them a go!

Please let me know how you get on with them and if you have any questions too of course!

  2. Great overview, Laura. I use Disqus all the time myself and can definitely recommend it.
If your interested in recipe plugins I suggest taking a look at WP Ultimate Recipe as well. I created it, so I’m a bit biased, but I honestly believe it’s a great plugin for food bloggers!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment Brecht! I will check out your plugin, for sure ๐Ÿ™‚ If you have any other plugins that you like / have developed – let me know! x

  3. I just downloaded Recipe Card. Genius. Thanks for the heads up ๐Ÿ™‚ Really appreciate your tips. Might do Disqus tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks Thanks!
